Customer Questions & Answers

Have a question? Looking for answer

  • 1)
Which of these is best suited for Indian solar panel installations?
Of the above 3 categories Mono crystalline, Polycrystalline panels are best suited for Indian solar power installations. If you have space limitation you can go for mono crystalline installation which is priced higher. However poly crystalline is almost equally efficient and needs just a little more space than mono crystalline. The reason for immense popularity of Polycrystalline solar panels is there relatively lower cost.

  • 2)
Do the solar panels have a warranty?
Yes all solar panels come with a manufacturer warranty. The period may vary depending on the manufacturer. Usually Indian Manufacturers give warranty in the range 1-5 years and performance guarantee as follows: 1st ten years - 90% of the rated output next ten years - 80% of the rated output

  • 3)
Will a solar system affect the value of my house?
A solar system is known to add to the value of property whether it is for rent or sale.

  • 4)
Can solar panels be installed on tiled roofs? What if there is a need to replace the tiles/roof?
Solar panels can be easily installed on tiled roofs. If you need to repair your roof you can easily uninstall and reinstall the solar panels when the roof is repaired

  • 5)
Can I take my solar panels when I move?
You can definitely take your solar panels when you are moving. However if you are selling your property leaving the panel will increase the value of your property.

  • 6)
What is the lifespan of a solar PV system?
Solar panels are durable and have a lifespan of 25-30 years. As the systems need minimal maintenance they keep generating free electricity for over 2 decades.
    7)
How long does it take for a solar system to be up and running?
On an average it takes around 4 weeks from site inspection to installation and proper running of a solar powered system. Time might vary depending on the availability of material, complexity of installations, time taken for any approvals from your society or local governing bodies etc.
    8)
How suitable is solar panel installation for various locations in India?
India’s geographical location allows us to get almost 300-325 days of bright sunlight. Even the places on higher altitudes or rainy areas do get sufficient sunlight to make solar installations viable. Radiation in India is above 1900 kWh/sq. mts/an. So, one can easily generate 4kW/h's (units) per KW per day.
    9)
How does installing solar panels contribute to our environment?
Installing a solar panel has great environmental benefits. It reduces waste and conserves fossil fuel. Due to reduced usage of conventional fuels there is improvement in air quality. By opting for solar panels one can greatly reduce the carbon footprint and contribute towards a greener future.
    10)
What are some of the immediate benefits of installing solar panels?
Some of the immediate benefits of installing solar panels are: • Reduction in electricity bill • Control over power availability • Reduction in fuel bills for running power backup DG sets • Reduced carbon emissions • Free electricity after 2-5 years when the solar panels payback their cost of installation
    11)
What are the factors that may impact the efficiency of a solar panel?
Following should be taken care of while installing a solar panel: • Direction: Fixed position panels, without sun tracking mechanism should be installed in south facing direction to get maximum output. • Tilt: Angle of inclination should be decided on the latitude of the location. • Shading: Avoid shading at all costs as this would affect the output of most efficient solar panel. • Dust: Keep cleaning the system so no dust is accumulated which might block sunlight. • Temperature: Higher temperatures also impact solar panel’s output. Solar panels get rated based on standard test conditions (i.e. temperature: 25 degree Celsius, insolation 1000W/m2, Air Mass: 1.5) and if the temperature is higher than this the solar panels might not give desired output.
    12)
What is net metering? Can I sell excess units generated from my solar system to the Grid?
Net metering connects your solar system with the conventional power grid and ensures seamless power supply. This method is used to measure the difference between the energy purchased by the customer from a utility company and energy generated(using solar panels) and sent back to the grid. Yes, many states have come up with new regulations on net metering whereby one can send excess solar electricity back to the grid. During this process the meter runs in reverse mode which allows the customer to get credit from the electricity grid.
    13)
Does the government give any benefits for solar panel installations?
Government of India is promoting the clean solar energy heavily. You can avail soft loans at low interest rates for installing solar panels. There are various subsidies given by state governments which can be as high as 30-40 % depending on the state government policy. Companies can also claim up to 80% accelerated depreciation and tax benefits by installing solar panels. Additionally there is no sales tax, octroi or excise duty on solar panels.
    14)
    Is solar power reliable?
Modern solar panels are highly efficient and undergo stringent stress tests before being passed for sale in market. Hence, they generate sufficient electricity to fulfill various requirements of a home, office or industry. Some of the biggest companies and important buildings like White House; Eiffel Tower etc are using solar panels to fulfill their electricity needs.
    15)
Will extreme weather damage my solar system?
Solar panels have robust design which allows them to withstand extreme weather. They work even in extremely high and low temperatures; can withstand hail, snow or lightening and winds up to 80mph.
    16)
Do solar panels require lots of maintenance?
Solar systems require minimal or zero maintenance. There are no moving parts in solar panels which limit the amount of damage caused due to movement. You just need to clean the panels periodically (every 7-10 days) to ensure that dust does not form a screen over the panels and stops the sunlight from reaching the panels directly.
    17)
How to calculate the exact energy requirement and number of solar panels to be installed to run a home, office or commercial/industrial unit?
Call us at +91-80102-95295 and we would arrange a site visit that would ascertain you exact requirement based on your location and space availability. Alternatively certain guiding principles can be used to calculate the requirement. If your home/office has a 10KW connection it means you are using less than 10KW power through a day. So, you can go for a 5-10KW range of solar installation which would be sufficient for fulfilling your daily requirements. Same rule applies for industries/ commercial units.
    18)
What will happen on a cloudy or bad weather day?
During bad weather days, the solar panels might not produce 100% of their efficiency but still they would keep generating power from sun’s energy. Even on cloudy, rainy and foggy days solar panels can produce up to 60% of their efficiency. However, if it snows very heavily and the snow covers the solar panels there might be no production of electricity as the panels fail to capture solar radiation.
    19)
Do solar panels need bright sunlight to produce electricity?
Solar panels work by sun’s radiation. Bright sunshine is best for solar panel’s maximum efficiency but even in locations that have cloudy or cold weather solar panels work good enough and generate electricity. All you need to ensure is that there is no shade falling on the panels.
    20)
How much roof area is required for installing solar panels?
The rule of thumb is, for every 1kW of solar panels installation, 10 meter square area is needed. If you have limited roof area you can go for solar shed which makes best use of roof space for solar panels.
    21)
    How does solar panel work?
Solar panels capture the sunlight and convert it into electricity. The photovoltaic cells in a solar panel are usually made of silicon which is a semiconductor material. Phosphorous and boron are also added to silicon to create conductivity within the cell. Activated by sunlight the electrons start moving across the cell and convert sunlight into electricity .Energy thus produced is DC electricity which is converted into AC electricity by inverters installed in the system.
